Security

The Rock Building Society advises clients to ignore bogus emails that have links to a "ghost" internet banking website or that request confidential information such as your Client Number and Access Password.

There are constant unauthorised attempts to breach the security of all major Australia banks. This activity can take the form of bogus emails sent to clients containing a link to a "ghost" website located in the US.  The "ghost" website is designed to capture valid internet banking Client Numbers and Passwords, which are then used to fraudulently transfer funds from the clients' accounts.

While The Rock Building Society has not been the target of such criminal activity, we are alerting our clients to the possibility of such scams. The Rock Building Society will NEVER ask you, via email, or telephone, or any other way to divulge your internet banking Access Password. Your internet banking Access Password is like a PIN for an ATM card - it controls access to your account(s) and should never be revealed to anyone.

Clients can check that they are linked to The Rock Building Society internet banking by:

  • Accessing Internet Banking by clicking here.
  • Observing the locked padlock symbol located in the bottom right corner of their browser.
  • Clicking on the locked padlock symbol to check the certificate.

    General Security Information
The Rock's internet banking system uses 128-bit SSL encryption technology to provide the best protection available to ensure all information is protected from unauthorised access.

To ensure that no one else can access your account information through Internet Banking, it is important to select a password that is difficult for someone else to guess. For security reasons, do not keep your access password with your account information, or disclose it to anyone else.

It is important to "log-off" from Internet Banking if you are leaving your computer unattended for a period of time. This will prevent unauthorised access to your account information. As an added security precaution Internet Banking will "log-off" automatically after 15 minutes if your Internet Banking session is inactive.

Also we recommend that you do not use AUTO-COMPLETE to save your passwords. This would allow others to access your account after you have used the computer.

Ensure that you have current anti-virus software and a personal firewall. If you have Windows XP, ensure the Firewall is turned on and also consider installing Windows Defender (free from the Microsoft site) - a very effective anti-spyware program. You should update anti-virus and firewall products regularly (most have auto-update options) and also ensure your "Windows Update" is set to automatic to ensure all critical security patches are downloaded from Microsoft.
