Rock into The Rock

The Rock Building Society has launched a public campaign to raise funds for the construction of Cancer Council Queensland’s new Rockhampton Cancer Education and Support Centre.

This campaign, which will run for the month of April, follows The Rock’s donation of $150,000 towards the centre, which will act as an important cancer control facility for the Central Queensland region.

Managing Director of The Rock, Derek Lightfoot, said public donations were urgently needed to help build the cancer centre.

“We urge everyone to dig deep and make a donation at one of our Central Queensland branches,” Mr Lightfoot said.

“This is important for local people, important for cancer control, and important for the future health of our local community.

“This is one part of our commitment to our customers and their families, by giving back to the local community,” he said.

“Cancer can affect anyone at any time and we are very proud to play a part in helping the Cancer Council to prevent and control cancer in our community.”

Executive Manager of Direct Marketing for the Cancer Council, Karen Shields, said the public could make donations via The Rock Building Society branches in Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gladstone and Emerald.

“We welcome direct donations from all members of the public, including those who haven’t previously banked with The Rock,” Ms Shields said.

A limited edition ‘Clancy the Cancer Bear’ will be offered to those who donate more than $25 towards the centre appeal.

The bears are limited to one per donation with limited stocks available.

Ms Shields said the new centre would provide cancer patients and their families with cancer support programs and services.

The Cancer Council Queensland is an independent, community-based charity and is not government funded. The achievements of The Cancer Council Queensland are made possible by the generosity of Queenslanders.
